ZAGREB, CROATIA - Croatia, Albania and Macedonia have fulfilled all criteria and received the invitation to join NATO, was the unanimous opinion of the NATO representatives during a conference held by presidents of parliamentary committees of foreign affairs and defence in Skopje.
According to Bob Simmons, second assistant to the Deputy Assistant Secretary General of NATO, not even one of these countries can be denied membership.
NATO must open its doors to Croatia, Macedonia and Albania, as they have fulfilled all criteria, and Macedonia is a bilateral issue with Greece, he said.
The members of NATO were represented by the ambassadors in Macedonia, Croatia was represented by Mario Zubovic, president of the parliamentary committee for foreign policy, MP Kresimir Cosic and ambassador Ivo Kujundzic.
Cosic stressed that the Croatian army is ready to take part in international peacekeeping missions in Afghanistan, Iraq and in other international operations led by the UN and NATO.Published: February 19, 2008 16:56h
