Motovun, Istria The tiny Croatian medieval town of Motovun in Istria hosts an annual film festival which has taken the independent film industry by storm. Around 100 films compete for the prestigious Propeller award, previously won by the likes of Lars Von Trier (Dogville) and Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliott). Besides excellent films, visitors can enjoy the town's unique atmosphere.
Originally intended as a festival for filmmakers rather than the industry, the event has managed to keep to its original idea and expand more then ever imagined. When it first started, in 1999, it was the first international feature film event in Croatia. Now, after six years, it has an excellent reputation and more than 50,000 guests and film artists enjoy the screenings in the main outdoor venue. Click here for more info
